Not a whole lot went right for the Oakville Blades at last week's Royal Bank Cup. But at least they can say they beat the eventual national champion.
The Humboldt Broncos won the Canadian junior A hockey championship, blanking the Camrose Kodiaks 1-0 Sunday in front of 2,477 spectators at Cornwall's Ed Lumley Arena.
Oakville's lone win in the tournament came against Humboldt, a 7-6 triumph Wednesday. The Blades went 1-3 in the round-robin and did not qualify for the playoff round.
Oakville's Jeremy Welsh was named the top forward of the tournament, notching three goals and three assists in four games. Five of those six points came in the win over the Broncos.
Goaltender Oliver Wren was the Blades' RBC Cup Legacy Scholarship recipient, as one graduating 20-year-old player from each of the five participating teams received a $500 scholarship.
