Town sets up pothole hotline

Town staff are looking for the public's help in plugging the unusually high number of potholes present on Oakville's roads.
Residents who notice potholes can now report them to ensure the irritating divots are repaired as soon as possible.
Road crews have been working on the problem, which has been exacerbated by this year's severe winter weather, but still have a long way to go.
"We have a plan in place to repair potholes and our work crews are actively patrolling the road network and patching them on a regular basis," said Dan Cozzi, director of Roads and Works.
"We are focusing our attention on main and secondary roads first. Once this is completed, we will start patching potholes on residential roadways."
The frequency of freeze/thaw cycles, the condition of the pavement (older pavements vs. newer pavements), and the number of times a road is plowed all contribute to the number of potholes that appear after winter.
The Town expects that it will take several weeks before the majority of potholes can be addressed. In addition to patching potholes, the Town plans to retain contracted crews to carry out minor asphalt pavement repairs along busier roads that have been significantly damaged by winter weather. This process is expected to start in April and continue through May. It is estimated that pothole patching and asphalt repairs, including repairs on Halton Region roads within Oakville, will cost approximately $400,000.
"We would appreciate help from residents in reporting the locations of potholes," added Cozzi. "We have a phone line and an email address to accept this information from the public."
To report a pothole, call 905-338-4392 or e-mail roads@oakville.ca and leave the location of the pothole. Both the phone line and e-mail will be checked daily and the locations will be placed on a list for staff inspection and repair. Note that main roads will be addressed first, followed by residential areas.
"We ask that residents be patient as there are several potholes to be repaired and Town staff will get to them as quickly as possible," added Cozzi.
