Zack Chetrat again served notice that he is one of the country's top young swimmers, winning four medals at the North American Cup Challenge in Los Angeles.

The Oakville Aquatic Club member set a meet record in winning the 200-metre butterfly, reaching the wall in 2:04.35 -- the fourth-fastest time in Canada this year.

He also won bronze in the 100m butterfly, posting a personal-best time of 56.79 seconds.

In team competition, Chetrat swam the fly leg in both the 400m medley relay and the 800m freestyle relay.

Canada won the 400m race and came second in the 800m event.

Chetrat relished the chance to swim in the Los Angeles Olympic Pool, where former swimming great Victor Davis once swam to gold for Canada.

The North American Cup Challenge, held this year for the first time, is a tri meet between Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Chetrat was one of 40 Canadians selected to participate, based on his strong performance this past season.

"The opportunity to race against the best in my age group around the world this past winter in Australia (as part of the Australian Youth Team) as well as at this competition in California has really taught me the importance of preparation," Chetrat said, "in training short term and long term, as well as the importance of getting up and racing with confidence. It has been a great year and I cannot wait to get back into training for Olympic Trials next April."
