Núñez will be opening the Celtic Colours Festival in Cape Breton before he makes his way to Oakville, where the concert will include the Halton Police Services Pipe and Drums and a symphony orchestra.

This event is the second in St. Jude's musical series subtitled Concerts for Causes. It will also celebrate the launch of United Way of Oakville's 2008 Community Campaign.

Barbara Burton, CEO for the United Way of Oakville, said she is delighted the organization will be the recipient of part of the proceeds from this concert. She also looks forward to the opportunity to address what is expected to be a large crowd at the beginning of the concert.

"What a great way to bring our community together to hear our story -- we need just three minutes to tell so many that our donors are meeting critical needs in every corner of our great town," she said. "We are very excited about this campaign and we are grateful to our volunteers for their relentless efforts to achieve our goals."

Among his long list of accomplishments, Núñez often tours and records with The Chieftains, who refer to him as their seventh member. He was also the inspiration for their lively, Grammy Award-winning foray into Galician music with a CD entitled Santiago, which also featured Linda Ronstadt and Los Lobos.

In addition to the pipes, Carlos studied his other love, the recorder at the Royal Conservatory in Madrid.

Núñez continues to explore other music including that of North Africa and South America.

"These are all connections -- Galician music is a fusion with waltzes, rumbas from Latin America, tangos from Argentina, and fandangos and jotas from flamenco," he said. "Each kind of music is like a cathedral, with different styles superimposed over the centuries: the Romantic, the Gothic, the Baroque, the neo-classical. A cathedral is the work of many generations and so is traditional music."

Don Pangman, artistic director for Celebration of the Arts, said this concert is a must-see.

"There will be more than 40 very talented musicians on stage over the evening with explosive moments of pipes and symphony and then the quieter and haunting beauty of Carlos's flute playing," said Pangman. "He is so versatile -- he has played with the best from around the world. We are confident that this concert will be a memorable experience for all involved."
