Starting in July the local bus service will introduce a series of route improvements, which includes Saturday service for Route 22, Saturday service every 30 minutes for Route 24 and increased peak-hour service for Route 200.

July will also see the new Route 32 unveiled, which will operate as an all-day service (Monday to Sunday) to the new Rio Can Centre (Burloak/QEW), including Silvercity.

Later this year, transit users will also see improvement to Route 13 with Saturday service increased to every 30 minutes.

On top of this Route 200 will adopt Monday to Friday all day service at a date yet to be specified.

Unfortunately all of these improvements are not free. On Monday night, Town Council approved fare increases, which are scheduled to come into effect on July 7.

"Bus Service needs to expand and change to accommodate the needs of residents," said Barry Cole, Director of Transit Services for the Town of Oakville.

"The fare increase will allow us to improve our service as demand and operating expenses increase."

A cash fare will move from $2.50 to $2.75, an adult ticket from $2.10 to $2.30, a student ticket from $1.70 to $1.90, a senior ticket from $1.40 to $1.55, an adult pass from $78 to $80, the price of a student pass and senior pass will remain the same, a GO co-fare will move from .50-cents to .60-cents, a GO fare with a bus pass will remain the same while a day pass will be bumped up from $6.50 to $8.
