HELPING HANDS FIREFIGHTERS RAISE FUNDS: From front to back, Michael Robinson, Oakville firefighter Ryan Szacas and Daniel Lancilla, 2, with a pumper truck as Oakville firefighters hosted a Boot Drive/Family Day to raise funds for muscular dystrophy at the Dorval Crossing Mall last Saturday. The firefighters have a long history of supporting finding a cure for muscular dystrophy. At press time, the total raised was still being tallied.

A-MAZING FUN ON THE FARM: Stonehaven Farms has a six-acre corn maze. Customers who visit receive a map showing the location of four stations within the maze which have questions or true/false, with answers on the quartet of topics: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and cranberries. Within each set of question/answers is a mystery letter to remember and unscramble a four-letter word at the end of the adventure. There is a wagon ride to and from the maze. There is an admission charge for the maze for ages five years and up and tickets can be purchased at the farm's new farm market. Fun in the Kid Zone is free however and includes a covered sandbox, straw jumping pile, straw bale maze and kiddie straw pile. The market offers baked goods such as pies, cookies, tarts, soft-serve ice cream, fresh local produce, jams, jellies, honey, maple syrup, salad dressings, dips and more. PAWS FOR HOPE TEAM EFFORT: The Paws for Hope Walk-a-Thon cancer fundraiser was held at Pilgrim's Park on Sunday, Aug. 24. It raised more than $2,200 for the Canadian Cancer Society, Oakville Unit. Oakville's first Paws for Hope trail walk-a-thon, saw dogs and their owners walk together to raise funds for people living with cancer. The participants enjoyed a leisurely walk through the Glen Abbey trail system. The Oakville Unit decided to organize Paws for Hope after hearing from numerous cancer survivors and volunteers in the community of the important role their pets played in their cancer journey. 202396 Novice Hawks soar to title in B.C.

EASTERN CANADIAN CHAMPS: The Oakville bantam Tier II Angels became the first local girls' softball team to win gold at a national-level tournament, claiming the title at the Eastern Canadian championships last weekend in Nova Scotia. 202388 MAKING MUSIC

MAKING MUSIC NEW IN TOWN: Mike D'Sa gives five-year-old Aidan Henry a guitar lesson. The CP School of Music and Art held its grand opening for its Oakville location at 2387 Trafalgar Rd. on Saturday, Aug. 23. CP School of Music and Art will offer private music lessons in piano, guitar, voice, violin, flute, and theory. Group lessons will be offered for music and movement development programs, such as KinderMusik and Music for Little Mozarts, as well as, dance and art lessons.
