GREEN THUMB HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW? Amanda Bramall spends some time outdoors at the recent Plant Sale of Mature Perrenials. The sale features plants that have been rescued from gardens that were about to be destroyed. Bramall is the organizer of the event. All proceeds were donated to the Roots For Shoots charity program, which feeds children in Africa.
EASTERN CANADIAN CHAMPS:There was no shortage of smiles on the faces of Oakville bantam Venom players and coaches after the girls' basketball team won the Eastern Canadian title recently in Quebec. Oakville won all five of its games at the championships, including a 45-33 victory over a Newfoundland team in the final.

BACK TO THE FUTURE FROM TIME TO TIME: Museum curator Carolyn Cross, left, and assistant Susan Semeczko were on hand at the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate for the opening of a new exhibit entitled From Time to Time. The display compares the lives of two teenagers from 1928 with two teenagers living in 2008. It runs until June 2009.

SANDY LANDINGS ITALIAN INVITATIONAL: Andrew Zylik hits his ball out of a sand trap during the 29th edition of the Oakville Italian Invitational golf tourament, held last Friday at Glen Abbey Golf Club. Tournament organizers hoped to raise more than $20,000 through this year's event, with proceeds primarily supporting Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital as well as the immunology departments at McMaster Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital.
WHEELS ON THE BUS MAGIC BUS: Angela Lim checks out her reflection in an Oakville Transit bus mirror as she sits behind the steering wheel during Summer Fun Bus Day for Kids. The event focuses on improving local air quality and promoting the use of public transit. It included free bus tours, crafts, stories and games for kids 12 and under.
