Susan Paradiso, centre, Halton Catholic District School Board (science curriculum consultant and representative for EcoSchools) presented a plaque to Stephanie Ruzic, teacher and Nancy Guerin, teacher. This was St. Matthew's first year participating in the program and is one of only three schools in Halton's Catholic school board to receive this honour.

LEND A HAND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Volunteers Lynne and Doug Parker collect bread and other baked goods from Cobs Bread on Lakeshore Road at Thomas Street. The Parkers collect the good donated by Cobs for Food for Life, a volunteer program that distributes food to the needy. Food for Life is looking for volunteers to collect donations from Cobs' new location at Upper Middle Road and Eighth Line. Volunteers collect the bread donated by Cobs at the end of day, package it and deliver it to a warehouse facility for delivery to those in need the following day. NATURE'S WORKS PICTURE PERFECT: Photographers Linda Goodrow and Jim Dabir are exhibiting a collection of their works at the historic Sovereign House, 7 West River St. The exhibit runs until July 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The show, called Nature's Works, features images taken by Linda while travelling in Africa (www.DreamsofAfrica.ca) and Jim's images taken in Africa, Arizona, New Brunswick and Washington state.

ALL ABOARD HELPING HANDS: Oakville firefighter trainees, Mark Tyler, left, Dave Walker, centre, and Cody Sirotkin lift a wheelchair with Easter Seals kid Bruno Tustanic onto the boat during the 4th Annual Oakville Regatta for Easter Seals Kids. The regatta provided 17 families of Easter Seals kids with a cruise on the lake and a barbecue thanks to the Oakville Power Boat Club, Oakville Yacht Squadron and Bronte Harbour Yacht Club. Other sponsors included Oakville Place, National Wireless, the Kiwanis of Oakville, and the Optimist Club of Oakville. The event was also a fundraiser for Easter Seals, which raises money for children with physical disabilities and their families to buy expensive mobility and communications equipment and to send them to specialized, fully-accessible camps.
