TOASTING ONTARIO WINES HERE'S TO VQA: MPP Kevin Flynn (left) and Twisted Fork restaurant owner Michael Killip enjoy a glass of VQA-approved Ontario wine. Flynn is launching a new program to help promote VQA Ontario wines, which encourages restaurants to have at least 20 percent of their wines VQA sealed. Twisted Fork is the first restaurant in Oakville to apply for VQA wine status. Flynn is calling on local restaurants to apply for the award and is also asking the community to tell him about local restaurants that might be good candidates for the award. The public can e-mail suggestions to kflynn.mpp.co@liberal.ola.org. There is no fee to apply and all applications must be submitted by May 21. Winners benefit from free promotional opportunities and receive a framed certificate.
ORANGE RIBBON DAY BULLIES NEED NOT APPLY: St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School's Student Council President Marianne Pasiliao holds up an orange ribbon with fellow classmates behind her Friday in honour of Orange Ribbon Day, which symbolized the high school's commitment on bullying awareness and prevention. Parents dropping off their children in the morning were greeted by more than 250 orange balloons lining the school's circular drive. The event was the culmination of Spirit Month in which the students focused on the themes of dignity, equity and respect. Each of the first period classes in the school, regardless of grade, had the same lesson devoted to discussion and strategies around the concept of rejecting bullying.
