
A PIRATE'S LIFE SCHOOL PLAY: St. Matthew students Andrea Aglialoro and Alex McKeen perform in the school play A Pirate's Life for Me on Thursday morning. About 50 students were involved in three performances at the school.

CROSS-BORDER CHAMPS BEST IN BUFFALO: The Shermeta Law Rampage doubled the Stoney Creek Warriors 4-2 to win the Pepsi Select Hockey Tournament in Buffalo. The team won five straight games, 2-0 over Pickering, 2-1 against Clarkson and back-to-back 3-0 wins over Acton and Monroe County. GOOD NEWS BEARS FACILITY CHAMPS: The Bears were crowned champions in the Adult Safe Hockey League Facility Final last weekend at Canlan Ice Sports. This weekend, the team will travel to Scarborough to compete in the regional finals in hopes of representing Eastern Canada at the upcoming North American championships in San Jose, California. The Bears were summer champions at Twin Rinks last year before moving to Ice Sports, where they finished first in league play, won the league title and then claimed the facility championship. Members of the team are Shaun Dakin, Mike Sutton, Ian Park, Brennen McMahon, Andrew Moore, Kevin Jeffers, Mike Male, Blake Sicard, Chris Doussept, Steve Robbins, Dave Brownridge and Paul O'Hara.
BEIJING SENDOFF GOOD LUCK: The Dolphins Swim Club held a sendoff Saturday at Picadeli Restaurant for local resident Colin Russell, who will represent Canada at the upcoming Olympic Summer Games in Beijing, and presented him with a commissioned painting (shown here) by Keith Deimer. Russell will compete in the 200-metre freestyle event and will also join Oakville's Andrew Hurd on the 4x200m freestyle relay team.

MIDGET CHAMPIONS TIGHT-GAME SPECIALISTS: Askey Animal After Hours won the Oakville Hornets midget house league championship recently. The team went 6-1-1 in the playoffs, giving up only two goals in the eight games, winning its final three games by 1-0 scores. Team members are Ellen Zurawell, Laura Venditti, Devon DiMarco, Allie McInnes, Kathleen Sullivan, Colleen Doherty, Samantha Kwirant, Claire Scholz, Taylor DiMarco, Beth Irvine, Stefanie Sinclair, Ashley Runciman, Katherine Wallace, Alex Heggum, Rachel Sousa and Jaime Fergus.
